Tsari Mali Grad is a restored Roman fortress located high above the village of Belchin, nestled in the foothills of the Rila Mountains. The view from the top is spectacular and the place itself has a feeling of ancient stability and new life. Archaeologists call it “the king’s city in the mountains”, and for visitors it is a living example of how history can be revived with care and respect. You don’t just look at ruins here – you walk through restored streets, pass towers and encounter traces of Christian faith left over from the 4th century.
