The monument “Septemvriytsi”, the cave “The Dark Hole” and the Cross above Lakatnik form one of the most meaningful and contrasting routes in the Iskar Gorge. Located metres apart, they intertwine three profoundly different themes – historical remembrance, alpine memory and geological mystery. The space around them is raw and open – rocks, abyss and a panorama that engulfs the entire gorge. One slope, three perspectives on time and man.

A little further down, at the beginning of the eco-trail, is the cave “The Dark Hole” – the third longest cave in Bulgaria with over 7 kilometers of explored galleries. The cross was restored in 2001 by local people and honours the climbers who died in the area. The Dark Hole cave is presented as one of the longest in Bulgaria – over 7 km long and with many underground branches, accessible only to the prepared.
