The monument is 31.5 metres high and has the shape of a medieval fortress. It was built in 1934 and since then it has been welcoming visitors who come to bow before the heroes of the Shipka Epic. Inside there is a sarcophagus with the bones of the fallen, a museum exhibition, weapons and flags, and at the top – a panoramic platform with an amazing view of the Balkan Mountains and the Danube Plain. From the very top you can feel the strategic importance of this point – control over the pass, over the roads and over history.
