The Lion’s Head is an impressive rock formation near Primorsko, which resembles the profile of a lion. Shot only with a drone, this natural sculpture towers over the picturesque Ropotamo River and has aroused curiosity for centuries with its perfect lines. According to some historians, the site has been an important landmark since the time of the Thracians, while for others it carries sacred symbolism associated with strength and protection. From the air, one can clearly see how nature has sculpted the forehead, nose and mane with astonishing precision – without the intervention of a human hand. Located in the Ropotamo Reserve, it is only accessible by jeep or on foot, making the overhead shots even more spectacular.

The formation is about 6 meters high and is entirely naturally sculpted by wind and rain in sandstone. The Lion’s Head is located in the protected area of the Ropotamo Reserve and from the top it offers a panoramic view of the valley and the river. Its name began to be used officially at the beginning of the 20th century, but according to some researchers the place was a landmark as early as the time of the Thracians.

In this episode, we soar with the drone over the picturesque Ropotamo River, from where an impressive view of Lion’s Head and the delta in the distance is revealed. It is from the air that the shape of the rock is best revealed – the profile of a lion emerges clearly, as if sculpted by a sculptor. This time I don’t take the hiking route to the cliff itself, but photograph everything from the road – leaving the hike for a later, deeper visit.
