According to legend, in the 3rd century, a priest named Valentine<\/strong> secretly married couples in love, despite the ban imposed by Roman Emperor Claudius II<\/strong>. For this, he was sentenced to death and executed on February 14th<\/strong>. Later, he was canonized as a saint, and his day began to be associated with love.<\/p>\n

How is it celebrated around the world and in Bulgaria?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In many countries, couples exchange Valentine\u2019s cards<\/strong>, flowers<\/strong>, chocolates<\/strong>, and gifts<\/strong> as a way to express their love. In Bulgaria<\/strong>, Valentine\u2019s Day coincides with Trifon Zarezan<\/strong> \u2013 the holiday of winegrowers and wine, which gives people a choice whether to celebrate love<\/strong>, the Bulgarian wine tradition<\/strong>, or why not \u2013 both!<\/strong><\/p>\n
